Superior Product Quality & High Output/Stable & Reliable Operation
Magnesite is a carbonate mineral of magnesium and serves as the primary raw material for producing basic magnesia refractories and extracting metallic magnesium . The magnesite rotary kiln is the core equipment used to calcine magnesite at high temperatures, producing finished products such as light-burned magnesia, sintered magnesia, and fused magnesia .
Henan Hongke Machinery manufactures a comprehensive range of magnesite rotary kilns with cylinder diameters ranging from Ø1.6m to Ø6.0m and lengths up to 95m, accommodating production capacities from 2 tons per hour to over 10,000 tons per day . Our kilns are engineered for the rigorous demands of the Pidgeon process in magnesium ingot production lines as well as refractory material manufacturing .
The magnesite rotary kiln is composed of several key components working in harmony to ensure stable and efficient calcination:
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Cylinder (Shell) | The rotating body made of high-quality carbon steel plate, serving as the primary vessel for material processing |
| Supporting Device | Advanced shaft structure with automatic temperature measurement and electrical heating, supporting the kiln body |
| Thrust Roller Device | Controls the axial movement of the kiln body; available in mechanical and hydraulic types |
| Transmission Device | Single or double gearing with variable speed control via DC or frequency conversion motors; includes auxiliary drive for emergency rotation |
| Kiln Liner (Refractory) | Protective lining with a service life of 7-10 years under normal operating conditions |
| Sealing Devices | Multiple sealing options including air cylinder edge sealing, spring edge sealing, and graphite block sealing for optimal dust and air leakage control |
| Kiln Head Hood | Stationary or flexible type that houses the burner and controls the firing zone |
For kilns with a cylinder diameter of 2.2m or larger, auxiliary transmission systems are standard; units above 3.0m in diameter are equipped with four supporting stations instead of three for enhanced stability .
The magnesite rotary kiln operates on a straightforward yet highly effective thermal processing principle:
Material Feed: Raw magnesite is fed into the kiln through the feed chute at the kiln tail (the elevated end) .
Material Movement: Due to the kiln's inclination (typically 3.5-4.0%) and slow rotation (0.4-2.85 r/min), the magnesite rolls along the circumference while moving axially from the kiln tail toward the kiln head .
Heat Application: Fuel (natural gas, coal powder, diesel, or heavy fuel oil) is injected through the burner at the kiln head and combusted. Heat is transferred to the material through radiation, convection, and conduction .
Calcination Process: As the material travels through the kiln, it undergoes sequential thermal stages:
Preheating zone: 100-200°C – moisture removal
Preheating zone: 200-800°C – initial decomposition
Burning zone: 800-1450°C – complete calcination and sintering
Cooling zone: 100-800°C – gradual cooling before discharge
Discharge: The calcined magnesite (calcined white) is discharged from the kiln head device and sent to the cooling system .
Henan Hongke Machinery magnesite rotary kilns offer numerous performance benefits that set them apart:
Our kilns produce uniformly calcined magnesite with consistent quality, ensuring your downstream processes achieve optimal results .
Robust construction and precision-engineered components ensure continuous, trouble-free production with high operating rates .
Optimized kiln design and advanced sealing technology minimize heat loss, reducing fuel consumption and operating costs. Kiln heat efficiency reaches 75-85% .
Simple structure with minimal wearing parts means reduced downtime and lower maintenance costs. With routine care, the kiln liner lasts 7-10 years .
The kiln accommodates various fuel types (gas, coal, oil) and can process different grades of magnesite, making it suitable for diverse production scenarios .
Reliable kiln head and tail sealing systems ensure effective dust control and prevent cold air infiltration, maintaining optimal thermal conditions .
Variable speed drives and optional automation systems allow precise control over kiln rotation speed and temperature profiles .
The magnesite calcination process using our rotary kilns follows these steps:
Raw Material Preparation: Magnesite ore is crushed and screened to appropriate size (10-40mm or 40-80mm)
Feeding: Material enters the kiln via the feed chute
Calcination: Material progresses through preheating, decomposition, and sintering zones
Discharge: Calcined product exits at the kiln head
Cooling: Product passes through a cooling system
Storage/Packaging: Final magnesium oxide product is prepared for shipment
