The Professional Solution for Coarse Grinding and Sand Production
The Rod Mill is a heavy-duty industrial grinding mill designed for primary open-circuit grinding. Unlike ball mills that produce fine powders, our rod mill utilizes steel rods as the grinding media to deliver a more uniform particle size distribution with minimal over-grinding.
It is the ideal equipment for:
Artificial sand making (Capacity: 15-260 t/h, Output: 0-5mm cubical shape)
Gravity or magnetic separation plants (Prevents sliming of heavy minerals)
Processing tungsten, tin, and other brittle materials
Available in wet and dry types, with overflow or end peripheral discharge options.
Why Engineers Choose Our Rod Mill Over Traditional Crushers?
The "line contact" grinding action of the steel rods produces a narrow particle size range. You get fewer coarse rejects and less fine dust, ensuring a consistent feed for downstream flotation or screening.
Compared to cone crushers and short-head crushers processing the same material, our rod mill saves significant power. The open-circuit design reduces circulating loads, cutting electricity bills by up to 20%.
Equipped with a larger diameter trunnion and optimized speed, the material flows through the mill quickly. For sand making projects, the capacity reaches 260 T/H with a discharge size as fine as 0.8mm.
Liner: High manganese steel / Rubber (customizable)
Rods: High carbon alloy steel (HRC 45-55)
Warranty: Performance guarantee of 18-24 months for wearing parts under standard operation.
Manual or electric lubrication system for trunnion bearings. Slow-speed auxiliary drive for easy rotation during liner replacement.
How the Rod Mill Works?
The working principle of the rod mill is based on line contact grinding:
⚙️Feeding: Material (≤50mm) enters the cylinder through the feeding chute.
⚙️Rotation & Lifting: The motor drives the cylinder rotating via a gearbox. As it rotates, the internal steel rods (usually 40-100mm in diameter) are lifted to a certain height by the liners.
⚙️Grinding Action:
Unlike ball mills (point contact), the rods slide and roll over each other in a cascade motion.
The material is trapped between the rotating rods and crushed via compression and shearing.
The "line contact" ensures that coarse particles are crushed first, while finer particles pass through quickly, preventing unnecessary fine grinding.
⚙️Discharge: Once ground to the target size, the slurry or dry material flows out through the hollow shaft discharge end.
